Methodology
An automated script fetched each brand's homepage, /robots.txt, /llms.txt and /sitemap.xml once, on October 24, 2026. One point per signal, 6 points max. No manual adjustments.
- robots.txt allows AI bots: robots.txt does not contain
Disallow: /for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot or Google-Extended (directly or via*). A missing robots.txt (404) counts as allowed. - llms.txt present: /llms.txt returns HTTP 200 with non-HTML text content.
- Organization JSON-LD: the homepage has JSON-LD with @type Organization, Corporation, OnlineStore or Brand.
- Product/WebSite JSON-LD: the homepage has JSON-LD with @type Product, WebSite or ItemList.
- sitemap.xml present: /sitemap.xml returns HTTP 200 with a urlset or sitemapindex.
- Meta description: the homepage has a meta description of at least 20 characters.
Limits: this checks technical signals only, from a single fetch of the homepage. It does not measure how often AI tools actually recommend a brand. Many Shopify stores get some signals (like sitemap.xml and llms.txt) from the platform by default. Brands can request a re-check or correction via the submission form.
